We’ve still got a week set aside for our vacation, but we’re having some trouble deciding where to go or what to do. You know we always take our relaxing vacation on Sanibel in March. But we usually have some sort of wild adventure involving bear or moose or other such creatures in the summer. So far, adventure has eluded us this year.
Things I’d like to do on our vacation:
- Hike out from a fishing village in Alaska
- (Do they still have little fishing villages anywhere?)
- Or, stay in one of those rustic Denali cabins
- Bike in Mexico
- (I start to crave a non-English speaking place, and Mexico is the closest)
- Bike Michigan’s Upper Peninsula
- (It’s been so rainy and cool here, though, that I don’t necessarily want to go North where it’s even cooler.)
- Canoe and fish and skinny dip the Boundary Waters
- (I dread battling those massive Minnesota mosquitoes.)
- Backpack Glacier National Park
- Hike the Wind River Range
- Bike the Nebraska foothills
- Hang out in Taos
I need to drag out the atlas. The only driveable option above is the UP. And the only flying option with minimal luggage is the Boundary Waters because we rent equipment through an outfitter. Air travel has become such a major pain in the butt lately. We definitely need a fast-rail system in the US…that would be awesome. Really, in Europe, you just wheel your loaded bicycle onto the bicycle car and go.
We’d love to see you in the BWCA this summer!
We’re thinking about going to Sanibel in November or December. Any favorites or must dos?
I vote you do 13 this year and save 10,11 and 12 for next year……so I can come!!
