The paintings climbing these high walls makes it one of my favorite photographs of Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas. Also the old wallpaper and the cup of tea. And those are the very things that will make this blog interesting to you…not so much the fascinating characters seated at the table, but the collection of vases on their mantel.

It’s an incredibly rich photograph – where did you find it?
Hello poetinparadise…I think I googled “Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas.” It’s a well-known photograph to those of us who study and read and love Stein. This photo was taken in their Paris apartment before WWII where they entertained other expatriate artists such as Hemingway, Picasso, Matisse… Picasso’s iconic portrait of Stein hangs on the wall.
