This cat is all wrecked up again. Some mornings he comes in bloody and walking very gingerly, and then he lies down on the dog’s bed and just stays very very still. This morning he smells like grass and blood. I’d give anything to know what his summer nights are like.

Is Everyone Comfortable?

Our family room is not comfortable. It’s tolerable when it’s just the two of us, but even then, there’s lots of rearranging going on on the sofa. Add a crowd and you’ve got a bunch of people who can’t quit figure out how to hang out and watch TV.
Several weeks ago, Deb dismantled our sectional [...]
What’s the Point of Gardening, After All?

I’ve been shaping up the gardens these past couple of days. I mean, I have hauled load after load of dead leaves and perennials out to the woods…I pile them all up on that big plastic tarp and use it as a sled. But there are some plants that refuse to cooperate with the clippers…no [...]

Before we left for vacation, I [...]

P.S. Mary’s writing over at her place. If [...]

That darn cat. He’s tired of being cooped up, so he’s getting ugly in the mornings. You know what I mean: knocking my glasses, a book, the pens from the bedside table; wrestling the rug; swiping the dog; clawing the chair; his nose to my nose; meow, meow, meow in that steely, insistent way; repeat. [...]
Pests in Dark Places

I spent a good deal of time this past summer fighting Indian Meal Moths; I cannot tell you how awful it was once I decided to tackle the job. At first, I simply smashed them to death with a fly swatter as they flitted around the pantry. But they kept coming. And coming. When I [...]
