Oh brother. I did the unthinkable. I cooked a meal that was only mediocre.
You know, it was a long day anyway, but to top it off with a mediocre meal cooked for guests…well…ugh. Yesterday was Maria’s memorial service. That was mediocre, too. I didn’t like it. I thought I would, but it was one of [...]

Stay for Soup?

Gosh, how lucky we are. Really. We’ve had people all around us for the past four days, and though I’ve had to slip away for bike rides and naps, it’s been very nice. Good thing I made a wicked pot of turkey-and-rice soup on Friday. You know, there’s nothing like a big pot of soup [...]

Today is Thanksgiving, and Maria died tonight.
She took her last breath about 10 minutes after we left her, and we are so very very sad. I told you, Reader, that she was unresponsive, and on Monday, after two weeks like that in Neurological Intensive Care, her family removed her from her respirator and all the [...]

Our friend, Maria, is unresponsive.
Maria had an MRI a couple of weeks ago, and it showed a congenital weakness in the vessels in her brain…a hemorrhage from that weakness caused her massive stroke in July. Because this small area of weakness remains, she underwent a procedure on Monday to correct it and to try forgoing [...]

What a day we had yesterday, yes, Reader? Whew. And how totally sweet that

Mary and Suzanne handled the sales and the growing wad of cash at the Findlay Market book sale and signing (See Mary’s account over at her place);
Mary and Suzanne kept me fed and watered and entertained;
And they kept a whole lot of [...]

We had dinner two nights in a row with the nicest families. Last night we met Ryan and his family for pizza. You know, moments before the tree fell on him and before they had a reason to wave, Ryan and Deb waved to one another on the golf course—I guess that sort of signaled [...]

Uncle

Of course I’m not referring to you when I say this, Reader, but there have been too many people these past few days. I feel as if it has been nonstop. So, I’m stopping it. Deb invited me to play golf with her this afternoon, but I just can’t do it. No more tee times, [...]
